The Eid Bazaars of Lahore City

Published

on

Growing up in Lahore, shopping for Eid ul Fitr was probably one of the best times of the year. We’d go shopping after Iftari and slowly collect trinkets hidden in the congested yet lively streets of Anrakali or Liberty market, stopping every now and then to indulge in some desi goodness like ‘liberty ke masala fries’ or ‘rang mahal ke gol gappay’.

However, the Lahore we know has changed from then, evolved if you must say. This evolution has made most of forget the joys of spending time with family and friends, celebrating the coming of Eid. Now we sit on our couches and order everything online! From ‘kaanch ki chooriyaan’ and various Luxury Eid collections, we have it all just a click away. But where is the joy in that? The joy lies in going out shopping with your cousins and aunts, hand picking an outfit from scratch, buying matching accessories after hours of trying out different things.

So this year, I made an Eid guide for those who came after me but sadly won’t know much about the world I grew up in, a world that was not too long ago. This guide will take you through the streets of Lahore and give you a chance to revive old traditions!

1.Liberty Market

Situated in the heart of Lahore, Liberty market is considered somewhat of a landmark for us Lahoris. The famous Khussa Mahal is located here, where you can literally find a khussa for each occasion. You’ll have to make your way into the narrow alleys (ask for dupatta gali) where you’ll find bangles, cloth, jewelry and lots of great street FOOD! Don’t forget to eat the famous masala chaat or Paradise ka shawarma on your way out!

2.Anarkali MarketIf you’re on a budget, then Anrakali is where you need to pay a visit. For the longest before couture houses and big brands came to be, there was only this place. Hidden in the streets of Anarkali market you’ll find anything and everything! Mukesh and Gota kinari cladded materials are what I loved most about the market. These streets light up on Chaand Raat, and people come out in good spirits giving this place a surreal vibe, you can feel the generations that walked these street before you.

3.Icchra Market

Known for its fine silks and handicrafts, Icchra bazaar is where you will find a variety of fabric from cotton to satins and silks in incredible colour palettes, and exquisite traditional jewelry. Don’ forget to get Henna Mehndi applied to your hands since you’ll find some of the best artists in these alleys. We Pakistanis; especially Lahoris are famous for eating spicy and delicious foods. You will enjoy the Samosas, Pikoray, Karahi Gosht, and Fried Fish in this bazaar. If you like sweets you can taste Qasoori Falooda a traditional sweet food item of Subcontinent. Best thing to eat – THE FALOODA. Nothing like ‘kulfa and sawayan’ to keep you refreshed as you scale the vast market.

The Best Dressed Celebrities at Paris Haute Couture 2019 Fashion Week

Published

on

Many of the world’s finest celebrities flew to Paris over the weekend to indulge in some stunning high fashion at Paris Haute Couture 2019 Fashion Week. But they didn’t just observe. Whether they were sitting front row or snapped heading into a show, they also embraced their own eye-catching senses of style and we narrowed it down to the best ones!

Celine Dion is essentially the queen of Paris Fashion Weeks, turning the streets into her own personal runway. Wearing some of her wackiest and coolest looks yet, this year’s Haute Couture week has been no different. Her first official Haute Couture Fashion Week event was Schiaparelli, which would be presenting its first collection under Daniel Roseberry’s creative direction. Dion had a custom look made by Roseberry—a black halter-necked dress with a pleated skirt and matching elbow-length gloves. She finished it off with a headpiece by Stephen Jones, milliner to the stars, and sunglasses by Féroce.

Mandy Moore just made the streets of Paris a real life runaway. The This Is Us actress is most certainly cementing her place in the fashion industry and has proven herself quite the fashionista . Wearing a sheer striking blue cape dress with an embellished golden belt created by designer Peter Dundas, at the Dundas Fall 2020 Haute Couture Fashion show, the brunette beauty bewitched everyone with her outfit and equally mesmerizing makeup look.

Check out the chicest look on our newest MJ: Zendaya. She wore a cropped whitetuxedo shirt with slouchy plain black ankle cut trousers that displayed her tights and stiletto heels. She had her hair slicked back and we just can’t get over how perfectly she pulled this look off at the Armani Privé Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2019 show on July 2!

Margot Robbie: For the Chanel Haute Couture Fall-Winter show on July 2, the Once Upon a Time In Hollywood actress rocked a black and white checkered jacket with criss-cross print tweed pants matching with plain back heels and it surprisingly worked! Keeping casual, simple but chic.

This just might be the blonde beauty’s most daring outfit to date. Christina Aguilera dons a vintage tattoo kimono-style dress with a corset (that acts as a belt), black knee-high boots paired with flashy accessories and makes a statement with red lips and nails at the Jean Paul Gaultier Haute show.
