The Citizens Foundation brings 15th TCF Golf Tournament to raise funds for the education of the less privileged children. The tournament is set to take place next weekend at the Karachi Golf Club. The fifteenth edition of the tournament will bring together the avid golfers of Karachi to play a friendly golf match in Texas Scramble format. The funds raised from the tournament are expected to enable more than 400 children from the low income communities to get quality education in TCF schools.
According to the latest Pakistan Education Statistics Report by AEPAM, Ministry of Education Pakistan, there are 22.84 million children out of school. UNESCO´s latest published figures suggest Pakistan has the second highest number of out of school children globally after Nigeria. It doesn’t get any better in adulthood, as Pakistan also has the highest number of illiterate adults in the world. To top it all off, we have gender inequality issues in education. Out of the 5.06 million children not going to primary school, 60% are girls. According to recent country statistics, compared to a girl, a boy in Pakistan has a 15% higher chance of going to primary school. (Source: Alif Ailaan)
“The education emergency in Pakistan remains huge with almost half of Pakistan’s children being out of school. The issue breeds many other social problems such as unemployment, poverty, crime, poor health to name a few. We need a collective effort to change this situation because every child has the right to quality education. TCF’s Golf Tournament is an event that we hold each year to highlight the education emergency and our efforts in educating the less privileged children. With the greater support of concerned citizens, we are hopeful that one day we will see an educated and enlightened Pakistan,” said Mushtaq Chhapra, Founder Director, The Citizens Foundation.
With 1,482 school units all over Pakistan and more than 220,000 children getting quality education, TCF model of education is trying to change the situation one child at a time. The Foundation is the largest private employer of women in Pakistan with an all-female faculty of 12,000 teachers and principals. TCF has 220,000 students this year. Nearly half (48%) of TCF students are girls. Eighty-eight percent of TCF alumni have gone to college and 71% are employed. This year the tournament has been made possible by the support of corporate sponsors, media partners and the well-wishers of TCF who believe that education is the answer to a better Pakistan. Different organisations as well as individuals have come forward to make the TCF Golf Tournament a success while creating education opportunities for the out of school children. The main sponsors of the event are Bank Al Habib, Faysal Bank, Indus Motors, Premier Insurance, Habib Metropolitan Bank and Sapphire Group. Other in-kind donors are Mr. Rizwan Rasheed of Richa Leathers for gloves, Mr. Imran Gheewala of Selimpex International for T-shirts, Musadaq Zulqarnain of Interloop for socks, Mr. Asim Shabbir Patka of Millinium Textile Mills for Towels, Mr. Yasin Kassam of Pakistan Beverages for cold drinks & water, Mr. Sadiq Feroz of Saniplast for band aids, Abbott Pakistan for Mospel and Unilever for their giveaways.

Football in Pakistan:Out of the 64% total youth population in Pakistan, 30% were expected to have followed the FIFA World Cup. Football is watched, played and loved all across the country. Despite great potential & sporting talent is Pakistan; it is quite unfortunate for Pakistan to stand nowhere when it comes to Football. Currently ranked at 199, the team has hardly won any global or regional titles for the country. Pakistan currently has more than 2,500 clubs registered all over the country which serve as nurseries for young players, however they have never been considered stakeholder of football. Some of the major challenges faced by these football clubs are as follows:
• Lack of Major Events in the Country
• Insufficient Investment
• Lack of Corporate Identity
• No Media Coverage
• No Support from Sports Federation & Government
Football Clubs at the Centre Stage in Pakistan for the First Time!
Pakistan football fans, enthusiasts and players are full of joy about a great development lately. Pakistan’s first professionally run sports management organization, Strawberry Sports Management is bringing a one-of-its-kind football league on a ten (10) years’ plus format that is centered on the top football clubs of the country. Slated for 2019, the League is placing football clubs as the foundation of game & player development.
The league will have nationwide coverage and participation from top clubs from all the provinces of the country, Azad Jammu Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, North and South Waziristan. The League shall create numerous branding opportunities for all stakeholders and its coverage across all platforms shall bode well for bringing out the true football talent of the country in the world. The League shall also scout, hunt, and nurture fresh talent from across the country. That’s a first too in Pakistan where in past couple of years top international retired players were toured in main cities of the country in highly extravagant manner without any impact on ground for Pakistani players!
Here’s hoping that the ground breaking football league around top football clubs of Pakistan gets to become a top notch national and international football league that brings joy and pride for the game lovers. Media and Government need to play their due role as facilitators for this great National Cause!

An Ode to Women
It’s time for patriarchy to step aside, for long women have lived in the shadow of strong and powerful men that have denied them their fundamental rights, but no more, it’s finally time for the women of this world to get what they deserve; an equal footing with men and the equality of opportunity. Its optimistic to see so much support for a day that celebrates women by people all across the board. To all the mothers, sisters, daughters, girls and women in the world, we salute you for your resilience and strength.
