With the so-called revival of Pakistani cinema still going on, Pakistani Cinema’s latest upcoming film in Betabiyan which is due to release this Friday.
Betabiyan, the film is claimed to be “a musical love story that basically targets Pakistani families especially women.
Betabiyan’s writer Wasif Burney claims that this film is a classic romantic film which will take you back to the classic age of Pakistani Cinema when families use to come together and enjoy a romantic saga on a silver screen.
This film is about a couple who, despite trying their hardest, cannot be together and yet they cannot remain separated from each other.
The director and producer of Betabiyan Abdul Majid Khan reveals that “It’s a story of Niggi (Hiba) who loves Hassan (Babar), but before she can express her love for him, it’s too late. Hassan’s life revolves around his much-pampered daughter, Nida (Saima). He faces a huge setback in life when his beloved wife Rida passes away, leaving him shattered.”
For a movie buff like me, I am actually looking forward to watch Saima Baloch on a Silver Screen. Saima Baloch is starring in Betabiyan playing her lead role whereas, she played a second lead in upcoming and much awaited Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt.
About Saima Baloch Ammara Hikmat, the producer of The Legend of Maula Jatt, had told me that she was selected among 80 girls because of her dancing skills.
The interesting fact about Betabiyan is that the film has 8 songs, all of which are composed by Ashan Bari Khan, whereas, the lyrics are written by Sabir Zafar and Wasif Burney. Out of those 8 so far 4 videos of these songs have been released on digital platforms including YouTube. These songs include Ho Kay Befikar, Lamhay, Kiyun along with the Title Track. However, I am looking forward to Shafqat Amanat Ali’s vocals in ‘Meri Jaan’ which is yet to be released. Apart from Shafqat Amanat Ali, the other singers include Humaira Channa, Sarah Haider, Nirmal Roy, Javed Basheer and Shiraz Uppal.
The title track is a traditional light melodious duet by Shiraz Uppal and Nirmal Roy, also released in video featuring the lead pair Syed Arez and Saima Baloch that tells a little about the theme and story of the film.
Betabiyan’s cast includes Baber Ali, Saima Baloch, Syed Arez, Hiba Ali, and veterans Javed Sheikh, Saba Pervez and Sangeeta among others.
The character roles are full of Pakistani Cinema greats like Javed Shiekh, Sangeeta and Saba Hameed which is certainly the icing on the cake.
Betabiyan is being released in Pakistan on 29th of November by Metro Live Movies, which has previously released films like Pari, Kataksha and Tevar recently.

‘Tere Saath’- a ballad of love and heartbreak
Abdullah Qureshi is back with another superb single, which is sure to become your favorite song of this season. The single titled ‘Tere Saath’ is Qureshi’s first collaboration with renowned music producer Eahab Akhtar. The song has been sung and penned by both the artists while Akhtar has composed and produced the music.
The song was recorded over two days after Qureshi got a call from Akhtar to give a listen to the new track that he had made. Things came together from that point on, and here we are with a beautiful composition that is fun, quirky, sad, and impactful at the same time.
The song comes as a breather of fresh air in the current times when everyone is confined to their houses because of the global pandemic. The song, written in English and Urdu, is a fusion of contemporary and pop music. It’s a happy-sad song, something that hasn’t been done before.
The song is about a lover asking his beloved the age-old question that people usually ask in love, “How could you do this to me?” The lover reminisces about the dreams he had for them, but they could never be fulfilled. He says there isn’t anything left to be said between the two of them and that things happen in life. According to him, the world is full of liars. That is why he wants to speak the truth because he isn’t like others. All of that is said through an upbeat melody that is sure to get you grooving.
The overall feel of the song is very western but retains its flavor and soul with the use of simple yet powerful lyrics in Urdu. The arrangement of the song is equally unique with the use of instruments such as guitar, drums, and techno beats that transform you into a musical world.
