Banker turned boss lady Hifsa Khan run one of Lahore’s oldest and prestigious beauty salons. With a flux of new age parlors in the market, we sat down with Hifsa to discuss how her salon stands out from others.
Q1. Tell us a little about your salons history, how did you end up entering the beauty industry and what inspired you?
Although I have been working as a corporate Banker with many International Banks including ABN Amro but, I have always been inclined towards Arts since childhood, looking back, perhaps it was that facet of my personality which slowly became dominant over the years till it took a stronghold over my career.
This U turn came to my life when I got married and started a family. The break that I took for taking care of my baby gave me a chance to breathe and explore my inner passion. I had always loved makeup and though my own wedding makeup was great, I had found that the bridal services industry was wanting in the amount of time, love and care offered to the bride, and that void became my cue…
Q.2 Your signature bridal makeup is loved by many, how would you describe your style?
My style is customized as per my bride’s face and expectations. So if I fell in love with Anushka Sharma’s no make up look on her wedding, at the same time I like to give some of my bride’s traditional & royal red look. I also love the soft peachy look with shimmery eyes giving my bride a heavenly gorgeous look. That’s why we conduct Demo meeting with the brides before their big day to decide which makeup style will make them look best. So being an artist I have to keep an eye on latest makeup trends also and I always keep myself equipped with all the latest makeup techniques.
Q.3 Makeup can be harmful to the skin if applied all the time, what beauty regime would you advise for clean and clear skin?
No, if the makeup products are of high quality, they are not harmful for the skin but yes the proper cleaning of makeup is necessary before you go to bed. And for clean skin, you have to follow the skin care regime which includes proper water intake, enough sleep, use of quality skin products & above all positive thinking which keeps you glowing inside and out.
Q.4 Your salon offers Thalgo skin care services, which would you recommend most & why?
Thalgo has a wide range of skin care products and I must say all have magical effects. But my favourite Thalgo service is “Thalgo Silicium Facial”. This treatment is for anti-aging skin and many clients at Hifsa Khan Salon have tried this service and their feedback is amazing. I myself get this treatment for my skin and found it more than I have heard about its magical results.
Q.5 What kind of hair treatments can one find at your salon?
Hifsa Khan Salon has wide range of hair treatments ranging from organic to chemical based treatments having quick results. Our most famous Hair Treatment is Organic Ayurvedic Hair Treatment which is anti-dandruff, stops premature grey hair and improves hair loss. To have better results, 3-4 sittings are recommended in a month. Its application is very simple and we have its retail box available also in the salon which has 4 portions of the treatment.
Q.6 Do you plan to venture into skincare and cosmetics?
We do have strategic collaborations with many skin, hair and makeup brands but with the emerging trends of the industry, it would be inevitable to have our own range of makeup products.
Like I myself get my makeup items assembled in customized lots from international manufacturers. And sometimes it becomes very hectic so it’s far easier to convert your imagined colors into your own products and launch it as retail too.
Valentine’s Day Special | 5 Times Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli Gave Us Couple Goals
It’s Valentine’s Day 2020 and our favorite stars in Lollywood have given us a lot of couple goals. One such star couple that has made us go aww every time we see them are Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli have been married for over ten years now and the couple shares two beautiful children Azlaan and Alyza.
Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli met in the most romantic way possible: Ali was painting portraits in the lobby of a local hotel when Ayesha visited him to get a portrait made. It was then that sparks flew and Ayesha’s father, Ali Sibtain Fazli, who was also a noted film producer, took a liking to Ali Zafar. The romance continued and the two eventually got married in 2009 in a beautiful ceremony.
Here are five times the two gave us couple goals and made us fall in love with them even more.
1. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli at Cannes Film Festival in 2013
Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli attended the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Check out how gorgeous and fashionable this couple looked as they represented Pakistan on an international stage.
There are many times when Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli appeared with noted foreign celebrities and represented Pakistani artists proudly.
2. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli at Bollywood Red Carpets
During Ali Zafar’s Bollywood stints, Ali attended all major Bollywood events with his wife with his side and the couple displayed style and pizazz together. The couple that slays together, stays together indeed!
3. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli’s Fabulous Travels
Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli often explore the world and the sights and sounds around them. Whether it’s traveling through Pakistan or to any part of the world, both Ali and Ayesha show just how perfection becomes even more stunning when set against a gorgeous backdrop.
4. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli’s adorable family moments
Ayesha and Ali have both expressed their love for each other on social media but various photographers have also caught some beautiful moments of the family together. Ayesha’s own social media has not just lovely posts dedicated to her husband but also to her brother in law, Danyal Zafar and her mother in law, Kanwal Ameen. It goes to show you that successful families thrive with support and love from each other
5. Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli’s tips for a successful marriage dynamic
Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli are not just business partners (Ayesha produced the highly successful Teefa in Trouble which Ali wrote and acted in) but they are also contributors to charity organizations and run their own charity which helps various communities in need. Ayesha Fazli is the Vice President of Ali Zafar Foundation and often joins Ali in humanitarian and charitable causes. They also revealed during an interview that they have a loving and understanding relationship that leads to a compatible and harmonious marriage. In an interview with a local host, the couple stated that they barely fight, usually reach on understandings easily and both are very well aware of each others’ quirks and idiosyncrasies.
There you have it, folks! It was tough to only narrow down five instances where Ali Zafar and Ayesha Fazli not only made Pakistan proud but also became an immense source of joy and love for each other and their families, but as Ali and Ayesha continue to be involved in various other exciting projects such as a possible sequel for Teefa in Trouble and the continued works of Ali Zafar Foundation, we hope that we will have plenty more to celebrate.
Hum Style Awards 2020 – The Good, the Bad, and the Dazzlingly Hottest
Hum Style Awards 2020
The enchantment and glitz of a perfect Saturday night, and with the true spirit of a star-studded affair, Hum Style Awards 2020 kickstarted the year with a bang. Held at Expo Center Karachi, the Hum Style Awards was indeed filled with glamour and graced by big names of the fashion and entertainment industry and turned out to be a compendious evening. The red-carpet ceremony began with a spark with megastars including Reema Khan, Tariq Amin, Zara Noor Abbas, and Mira Sethi among many, walking along and flashing their brightest smiles and deluxe attires. However, the zing started to fade after a few hours, turning into a drabber experience, and the diminutive size of the red carpet relative to previous years just added to the walk being shorter and people getting bored quickly.
The event turned out to be unusually timely, and before it was half past nine, the hall was filled and the show about to begin. The stage was remarkably gorgeous with the graphics setting a starry-night mood, mirroring the space with so many of the industry’s stars. Though the hall space was relatively cramped, making it appear congested at a few spots, especially when there was movement. And what better way to start the show, than with a splash of patriotism invigorating one’s spirits through our beautifully melodious national anthem.
The boost of patriotic sentiment was followed by a performance by a rap dup, Young Stunners, which turned out to be moderately successful in energizing people. It even managed to make the audience laugh at some spots, especially with the comical references to videos of celebrities that went viral on social media – the actor Ali Rehman Khan’s video leak where he is repeatedly seen saying to a restaurant’s staff, “Aap ko pata hai main kaun hun?” (“Do you know who I am?”)
Adnan Siddiqui, the host for the night, gave the show’s opening note, which was perhaps the only part of the hosting that can be termed enjoyable. The other hosts that followed, namely Aamina Sheikh and Usman Mukhtar, steered the event in a way which could have been made more entertaining if it were Adnan Siddiqui paired with Aamina for the show, as Mukhtar’s part sounded rather clumsy, with forced jokes in between. His Hum Smile Awards segment left a lot of the peers watching the show super perplexed, as his supposed impression of PTV’s host Tariq Aziz, was downright vague. The only thing that seemed spontaneously amusing about the hosting, was the use of political jokes here and there, which is rarely observed in Award ceremonies. From the comment on how Imran Khan is the only Prime Minister without his own business and hence, is bent on erasing all business from Pakistan, to the “boot polish” statement, the spritz of comedy was like a breath of fresh air in the otherwise mundane script.
The performances were energetic, and made the audience recall all the classic, vintage Pakistani music, while appreciating the present-day music that is part of our television and film industry. The second performance by Ahsan Khan and Sara Loren was riveting, though if the music is to be viewed separately than the dances, both the performers lacked the energy and the vibe of the tunes, despite being great at dancing usually.
The highlight of the event was the performance by Zara Noor Abbas, who appeared to be an embodiment of grace and art, rhythm and style, as she moved to the beat of the classical songs. Her performance was thoroughly refreshing and delightful, one which reminds you of not only the beauty of the art itself, but also the ability of a great artist keeping the viewers fascinated, throughout.
Dancing to the superhit tunes of the blockbuster film of last year, Superstar, the power-couple Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocane brought life to the show, as they shook the stage with their dynamic moves. The flow of the choreography and the beat of the dance numbers kept the fun alive till the next performance, which was undoubtedly another key feature of Hum Style Awards. The said performance was a splendid concert by Abrar ul Haq, instantly making the audience fall in love and sway with the hit Punjabi beats. However, had the concert been live, it would have added more of a buzz in the environment.
The Award Categories included the Rising Star 2018-2019 won by two of the Nominees including Mush Kaleem, the Hair and Make-up Artist of the Year 2018-2019 secured by Qasim Liaqat, Fashion Photographer of the Year 2018-2019 bagged by Alee Hasan, Best Model Female 2018-2019 won by Zara Abid, Best Model Male 2018-2019 won by Aimal Khan, Designer of the Year Lawn 2018-2019 received by Zara Shahjahan, Most Stylish Performer 2018-2019 won by Asim Azhar, Timeless Beauty won by Reema Khan, Most Stylish Actor Television 2018-2019 won by Sonya Hussyn in the Female Category and Mikaal Zulfiqar in the Male Category, and Most Stylish Actor Film 2018-2019 won by Mahira Khan (Popular) and Kiran Malik (Jury) and Ahad Raza Mir in the Female and Male Category, respectively.
Surprisingly, despite Superstar being one of the highest grossing film of the previous year, Bilal Ashraf was not nominated for the Most Stylish Actor Film category. If there were two awards given in the Female category in the name of Jury and Popular Choice, there surely could have been made room for two awards being awarded in the Male category as well, deservingly giving one of the awards to Bilal Ashraf.
Other Categories included Most Stylish Sports Personality 2018-2019, won by Hajra Khan, Captain of Pakistan Women’s National Football team. This was a novel deviation from the usual practice of recognition being granted to cricketers alone, as well as the fact that a woman bagged the award.
Style Icon given to Aisha Omer, and other prestigious awards that were part of the ceremony were Best Model Male and Female, Designer of the Year Pret Wear, Bridal, Menswear, Demi-Couture, and Lawn, as well as Retail Label of the Year and Excellence in Interior Designing and Furniture Manufacturing.

Day 2 of the three-day bridal extravaganza had an amazing line-up of celebrities walking for the designers – internationally acclaimed singer and actor Ali Zafar walked for Emraan Rajput, and the stunning queen of television Ayeza Khan walked for Aisha Farid. Nimra Khan graced the ramp for Kausar Sajid, while Urwa Hocane walked for Shakeel’s by Zeeshan Danish while Sanam Jung walked for Sheeba Kapadia’s showcase. The very lively Juggan Kazim walked for Chinyere while singer Falak Shabbir, vlogger Shahveer Jafry and cricketer Hasan Ali walked for Humayun Alamgir. Mawra Hocane walked for Sadaf Amir and Junaid Khan with Zubab Rana strutted down the ramp for Rici Melon. The veteran classical performer Nighat Chaudary added allure to the show during Maria B.’s segment.
