10 Beauty Tips For This Winter

You may notice that along with rosy cheeks, winter also results in dry, cracked or chapped skin. Winter air is drier and humidity is lower. This weather change, coupled with dry indoor temperatures from heaters, zaps our skin’s moisture. Here are a few tips to retain some of that moisture:

1. Moisturize Daily

Cold weather and cool winds aggravate dry skin condition. Moisturizers and cold creams are a must during winters. Tone and moisture after each cleansing to preserve and replenish the moisture in your skin. Use a moisturizing night cream every evening. Apply a daytime moisturizer around your eyes and on dry areas EACH morning!

2. Lip Balm

Keep lips covered with a good balm applied several times during the day. Lip balms are now commonly available with an SPF factor. Make sure the lip balm contains SPF 15 or 20. Other ingredients to look out for while buying a lip balm or chap stick are vitamin E and shea butter. Avoid licking your lips and don’t bite the skin on the surface of your lips.

3. Apply Sunscreen

On bright winter days, the sun’s rays increases your risk of exposure. And don’t be fooled by darker, dreary days in winter, either. The sun’s harmful UV rays can permeate clouds and still cause damage. Before you go outside, apply a moisturizing, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher to all exposed areas of your body.

4. Lemon and Water

Squeeze fresh lemon into a mug full of hot water and drink when you wake up. This helps flush out and purify the body internally, potentially reducing toxins and bacteria in the small intestine that can lead to acne. You know how your diet can sometimes make you break out? This is like the reverse of that.

5. Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is easily available and comes very cheap. It can be used on dry skin, dry lips, and cracked heels – the remnants of winter on our body. Petroleum jelly is an emollient and has skin moisturizing properties. It helps to get rid of the above-mentioned dry skin conditions. But if your skin is prone to breakouts, do not use this remedy.

6. Olive Oil And Egg Yolk Face Mask

Add 3-4 drops of olive oil to 2 egg yolks and whip them to get a stable mixture. Apply it on your face and keep it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with water. Olive oil is rich in natural antioxidants and vitamins E and K. Egg yolk contains vitamin A and lecithins that nourish the skin and treat dryness effectively.

7. Milk Cream And Honey

Milk cream or malai is one of the best natural moisturizing creams that you can apply on your skin to make it supple and soft. Trust honey to clear your skin off the bacteria that are responsible for the growth of pimples and acne on your face. All you need to do is to take a tablespoon each of milk cream and honey in a bowl and mix them well. Apply the mixture on your face and skin and leave it for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Pat dry your skin and see the result; your skin will feel moisturized like never before.

8. Avocado And Honey Face Mask

Mash the avocado and add the honey to it. Apply the mixture on your face and neck. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with water. Avocado and honey are both humectants and help cure dry skin problems during winter. Avocado contains healthy fats, vitamins E and C, and carotenoids. They protect the skin from free radical damage and keep it hydrated.

9. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil makes the skins softer and provides moisture to the skin naturally. It is rich in fatty acids and prevents moisture loss. During the winter months, apply coconut oil at night before going to bed.

10. Banana Mask

Mash 1/2 banana and add 1 teaspoon honey. Mash the banana well so that no big lumps remain. Apply this on your face and keep it on for 15-20 minutes. Then rinse with water. Banana moisturizes and nourishes the skin with its vitamin C, B6, and A content. These help in retaining water in the skin and keeping it hydrated. An additional benefit of using this face mask is that banana also possesses anti-aging properties and will smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
